What is the right syntax to do the following?

set delimiter '|';
select * from tablename;
And it outputs:
cola1|colb1|colc1|cold1|
cola2|colb2|colc12cold2|
.. .. ..
colan|colbn|colcn|coldn|
n rows selected
Thanks,
