I recently started administering Oracle on Windows 2000 and noticed that when the oracle.exe process consumes 1450+ Mb of memory, we run into out of process memory error. We ended up recycling application servers every time this has happened and it really is a painful situation. I have been told that eventhough the machine has 2.5 Gb of RAM, Windows cannot address memory more than 2Gb and if you take out the memory needed for the OS, the effective memory addressable by process comes close to 1500Mb, which is what I have been noticing. First of all is this true? We are hoping to migrate to a 64 bit operating system like Windows 2003. Would it solve our problem? How stable is Windows 2003?
