Bug resolution

I ran into an interesting bug last week.

While generating EXPLAIN PLAN's for all statements in the cache of an 8i database,
the utility continued to die with ORA-3113, 3114, 24323.

The problem is due to a view with an instead-of-trigger against several tables.

Oracle was able to reproduce the problem, and declared it a duplicate of bug 1779368, a bug that is fixed in 9i. The bug I discovered is also fixed in 9i.

What I find interesting about this is that the bug will not be fixed in 8i.

The recommended workaround is to upgrade to 9i.

It seems that 8i support is ending earlier than expected.

Just something to think about.

Jared
