Oracle Apps is wonderful.... For our current incarnation, we started with 11.5.4. After 500 (yes,
that's a 5 with two zeros) patches, we applied the 11.5.8 update. 100 patches later, we are looking
forward to the 11.5.9 maintenance release this fall.

Oh, and by the way, each one of those patches generally has a language specific version as well.
Let's see, 3 languages installed, 500 patches, ....

Oh, and by the way, apply a patch for one module, say order entry, and pray it doesn't break
something in a different module. (It generally will)

NO... I have been doing Apps for a year... I am starting to learn. There IS no automatic undo for
patching. There are only more and more and more and more and more patches to fix the broken-ness

Maybe, (Hope, Pray) this is all a big hoax. Oracle could announce this feature and
use it as a marketing tool toward management, but never really implement it, all
the while knowing that there will never be real dba that will even try to turn it
on while a wet behind the ears, fresh out of a 5 week crash course in playing dba
junior type will never quite figure out what they are doing wrong.

Actually I think what they showed is really going to be part of OEM4. My
understanding is that the 1st release will be out in the coming weeks with a
.1 release ( with functionality like a pocketpc version) to be out in q3/4
timeframe. Oracle 10( or whatever its called ) will be unveiled at
                        Oracle(Open)World in September.

The kid that demo-ed it would have been more impressive if he had once

Sure, the Oracle 'boy' did demo this auto patching stuff and it
all looked pretty impressive..... One more check-mark in the
list of things the DBAs do today, that can be taken away from
                                    them :)

But my little brain kept wondering......
..... as to why would Oracle come up with this wonderful
feature? Why can't they use such brilliant Developers to
concentrate on thoroughly testing their code so it does not need
a lot of patchwork. Patching should be an exception, not a
routine procedure that needs automation !!

BTW.. The new release may not be called 10i, after all.

Did find out that it will automatically download and
install all patches and OEM will allow it to be scheduled
so that you don't actually have to do anything. I think
