I recommend to any of my new DBA friends to learn the commands first then if they wish to save time get the GUI. That way they understand exactly what is going on behind scenes - makes debugging possible and they are not dependent.

There were a bunch of other features but the one that I most noticed (and that they highlighted) was the patching one.

You can start/stop databases, check everything within the database etc etc.

all pretty GUIs. It's not that OEM is bad, it's just that that one feature scared me silly. And I tend not to like GUIs as they don't always run properly when I am logged in from home, or I don't have it installed on my machine at home etc etc. so I still like to get "hands-on" with the database.
