Although Arvind did a desc on the wrong View "V$BH", I don't have a status 
column on my 8i DB's in X$BH.  I am running 8i and 9i.  I do use the 
"status" column of "X$BH" in my 9i Databases, but I haven't seen it in my 
8i Databases.

I don't remember seeing what version of the DB Arvind is running.
