Jared - I agree with you. My understanding is that an Oracle upgrade just changes the data dictionary. An Oracle migration (like Oracle 7 to Oracle 8) involves changes to the tablespaces.

I think you will find this in either in the upgrade manual or MetaLink.

IIRC it depends on the number of DD objects, but I can't recall where it was that I read that.

Is this just a data dictionary upgrade?

The real question is, does the down time for this upgrade depend on the number of objects in the data dictionary or on the overall used tablespace in the database?
