Thanks to everyone for all the comments and suggestions. I am relieved to know that this is a situation that requires much thought and planning. I was afraid I was missing something obvious.

Since it appears as if I will have a free hand in configuring the disks, I may be on the gravy train (like Jared). If I am stuck with RAID 5, I will do the OFA thing for documentation purposes. Regardless, I will delve into the Oracle Performance Tuning book this weekend.
