I've been looking for something like this too -- unfortunately it doesn't work on my platform (UnixWare 7) out of the box, and I haven't had time to figure out why not.

Yes, Oracle will sell it as standalone product because it is most useful and

most used client software on Oracle. The licence model is 'per session'.
