HIPAA mandates formats for storing and exchanging information
about claims, providers and members. In my company (Oxford Health Plans)
DBA group helps by estimating and configuring HW requirements needed
for the additional programs as well as helping developers with tables
layout, partitioning and naming conventions. Strictly speaking, HIPAA is
a law about the health insurance business and, as such has nothing to
do with plying the DBA trade but we do need to help developers
who are developing HIPAA conforming gateways to our existing systems.
