startup shutdown steps

Hello All,

I am curious to know what are the executables that are used when we say startup/shutdown of oracle database on Sun box.

I think it is $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle

are there any other executables/kernel files
(important) in bin or in anyother areas.

Can somebody throw somelight ??/
