I guess the question was about absolute minimum for redo logs. Indeed, I'm just curious what is the theoretic absolute minimum for redo log size if any. few blocks? "Metablank" doc mentioned below gives sizing strategy. But there is one interesting sentence:

The LGWR is responsible for recording checkpoints in the datafile headers.

I thought that DBWRs are the only processes that make writes to the datafiles, so my understanding was that LGWR kicks DBWRs to refresh headers of datafiles and waits until DBWRs finish. Question: Do LGWR and CKPT change headers directly or request DBWRs to make it?
