I think I didn't make it clear at beginning. I apologize for that. We did apply the 8172 patch to 817, not 8.0.x or 8.1.6.

Our upgrade path is installed the 817 on a different oracle home, --> apply 8172 patch to 817 ---> upgrade 816 to 8172.
