Hi Joan,

We recently migrated our main ERP db directly from 8.0.6.2.0 to 8.1.7.1.0 on HP/UX 11.0 without any problems specifically related to the upgrade itself
(i.e. Don't use CURSOR_SHARING=FORCE! :\). However, because the db is
only about 20GB, we used the "export/import" method of upgrading, which negates the need for a separate patch upgrade.

HTH! Good luck!

I original posted this question. Oracle support and the list member all suggest to install the 817 first -> upgrade -> apply patch. However, Oracle support said it will be ok if directly apply patch then upgrade later. Since we need to upgrade our peoplesoft tools and oracle in the same day, so we chose directly goes to 8172, eliminated the middle step. So far no problems with that. (not fully tested yet, just on test machine. Next week, we will go to production machine)

Joan
