Virus scanning an Oracle datafile will bring your server to its knees, probably for hours. In addition, there is a danger that the virus scanner will find a pattern it thinks it recognizes in a data file, and "quarantine" that file, stopping your database in its tracks!

My advice is to run your database on a machine that only runs the database, has no direct connection to the Internet, and no interactive users in normal operation. If no-one is installing software or reading email on it, there is minimal chance of a virus ever getting to it.

Our NT Server admins have been told by the Security department that they need to install virus protection software on the NT / Oracle servers. Does
anyone know of any problems between Oracle and any virus software?
