Statspack does not increase performance. It is an improved version of utlbstat utlestat. You can find the install instructions on metalink. Once it is installed you can take periodic performance snapshots and analyze. I find it is really best at being an additonal source when diagnosing performance trouble when a particular job is running. You can get some very detailed info from the report regarding waits, latches and IO. There is a pretty good book on the subject also called tuning with statspack I think. DBMS_STATS is used to get table and index stats which is definately going to help performance if you are running the cost based optimizer. Not a slam here Chris but your questions are very basic and would suggest 1. you need to read the docs and 2. you better learn a lot more about oralce before you begin to worry about tuning your you database or you will likly make things a lot worse. Make sure you get familiar with the the admin and concepts manuals, www.oradoc.com, as well as all the others. Plenty of info will also be found by making the google.com search engine your best friend. Type in "Statspack" and "dbms_stats" and see what you find. Best of luck to you. - Ethan
