Alter table move is a pretty good reason in itself Check the rebuild indexes option out as well, I( think it stopped requiring a full table lock in 8.1.x (but check that one out)

A lot more partitioning options and capabilities Longer term support -need to go sometime why not now Standby and the ability to automatically copy archive redo logs acroos an apply them is worth it in itself Have a look at Metalink for new 8i features

Dear lists !
What are the main reasons to upgrade from 8.0.5 to 8i (8.1.7 , i guess) ? My main argument is that standby DB became easier in 8i , and i'll definetly need to implement it.
So is advanced replication.
I need more reasons to convinse the bosses (so they'll convince the customers) to keep up with the technology . Arguments like "it's more up-to-date" and "there are no more patches for 8.0.5 out" do not impress them.
Your inputs , please.

DBAndrey
