Select column_name, column_id

    From user_tab_columns
    Where table_name = 'YOUR TABLE NAME';

Hi!

How can I find out what the order of columns in a table is?

If I do a select * from tablename, the columns appear in a specific order. The same order than they appear when I do a describe tablename.

I can even do an insert without specifying the columns in my VALUES (.....,....) when they are in that specific order.

How and where can I find the order of the columns within a table?

Any ideas?

Yhis is 8.1.6 on Win2k.

Thanks,
Helmut
