 Not completely true. If the database was aborted, you will need to do recovery, but you probably won't need the archived logs - just the online logs. If however there was an active transaction that began before the oldest online log (unlikely but possible), you would need the archived logs too.   "Thapliyal, Deepak" <DThapliyal_at_ea.com> wrote:

normal/abort/immediate -- does not matter hence you do not need any "media" recovery .. hence no need of archives as ur db is uptodate ...in case it it not(abort) .. ur instance recovery will handle the rest for you from ur online logs

I have a database that was in archivelog mode. We shut the database down and did a full backup using Veritos. We want to restore the database to a different machine (same SID, file structure, etc). Are any archivelogs going to need to be applied or will we not need them since we are restoring from a cold backup?

This is Oracle 8.0.5/HPUX.
