Check out the procedings at www.inoug.org. At the July, 2000, meeting Bob Swisshelm (Eli Lilly DBA) presented a paper showing how this can be done. I believe the title was "Implementing Security through Stored Procedures".

To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Subject: Another newbie question about roles...and synonyms.

Can I create synonyms via a role?

i.e. when I create a user I use a role. I want this user to be able to refer to objects in myschema using a synonym rather than myschema.object

Is this possible?

John
