Mike,
The write up on Live Vault is at
http://www.anteksystems.com/products/networkstorage/software/livevault.htm
I just read it & I'd be very leery of this product. First of all it's only for NT. That presents a problem as NT does not like more than one application messing with a file at the same time. Since Oracle keeps the database files open all of the time I'd expect problems there. Next it says it only copies the sections of a file that have changed to the vault. HUMMMM Oracle keeps lots of tracking info all over the place to see if the db is consistent. A Live Vault restore could cause a whole lot of trouble here as well. The write up says you need the Database Option and it lists ODBC compliant database systems like Oracle and SQL*Server, but I'm doubtful. Putting the databases in archivelog mode is step one for me. After that I'd require a reference site for more info.

One of my customers is purchasing a package called Live Vault. They say it will do a backup of Oracle on the fly, backing up all changes sort of as they happen...
Okay.... but the customer is running about 4-6 very small databases on this server and none of them are in archivelog mode.
Is this possible, and does any one have any "live" experience with Live Vault?
I would think at a minimum we need to put the databases in archivelog mode.
