Why oracle uses cpio instead of tar.?
I am extracting cpio file but it just hangs.
$ cpio --extract soa_linux_x86_101310_disk1.cpio

Certain versions or TAR cannot handle very long paths.

Try:
$ cpio --idmv < soa_linux_x86_101310_disk1.cpio
