i would like to know how often are oracle supplied packages used in programming? as per the training i have taken i have learnt to create stored procedures , functions. i would also also like to know if these subprograms can use in something like datawarehousing ? and if we can i would just like to know some basic things about the same.

Have you checked the manuals? All supplied packages are explained in there.
