Hi,

I am in the designing and implementation of a Datawarehouse Profitability Solution for our client. I am working in the datawarehouse environment for the first time.
I have read that for ETL it's good to use OWB or some other ETL tools. However ETL can also be written through PL/SQL coding, so why do we need OWB? what is the significance of using OWB in datawarehouse environment. What role does OWB play in datawarehouse environment? Please guide me...
Thanks a lot in advance....

Regards,
Suranjita

The OWB User Guide has a part named "Benefits of using OWB":

My own opinion: OWB does a lot of stuff for you, so you don't have to code it yourself. On the other hand, you have to learn a new tool (and the people maintaining and administering the DWH too). But since datawarehousing comes with a lot of special techniques and methods you have to learn anyway, why not learn a tool too while you're at it...
