I have been developing applications to work with Oracle for a while now and I can put together tables, indexes, queries, etc., but most of what I've done to this point is pretty brute force. I've found a few little tricks in my development environment (Magic) that speed things up a bit, but I don't really understand how to design things for best performance (speed). I don't know much on the DBA side of things, and each of my customers has their own DBA with their own way of doing things, so I don't have much control of the actual Oracle configuration.

Can anyone make some suggestions of what I can do when designing tables, indexes, queries, etc for the best speed? Any books or links?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Andy
