HI,
my friend is using oracle 8.1 on Unix platform and recently a datafile was lost. He can start the database but cannot open it.What can be done. Data is not that important and he can afford to lose it. He wants to avoid reinstallation.I sugested alter tablespace xyx; option but he cannot login so he cannot issue this statement. Help me out soon.

How can this be done.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Startup mount, then run
select name from v$datafile;
Put the lost file offline, then alter database open.
Drop the tablespace and recreate it. Good luck.
