Hi All,

I am very new to this forum. I am not an expert in oracle. My query is, is it possible to install Oracle Application server 10g in an existing Oracle 10g database machine ? (Operating system RedHat Linux 3)

Can anyone give me an answer ?

Vijayan

You didn't say whether you are installing an AS infrastructure or an AS middle tier. If it is an infrastructure instance, you may have an issue with the database listener: some early 9i/10g AS releases wanted port 1521 to be available, so if you are already using 1521 for your existing DB listener, you will have to shut it down for the duration of the install.

Dear Mr. John,

Thank you very much for your kind reply on my post.

Let me explain the scenario. I have 2 servers (1st is production with oracle 10g Database on RHEL 3, 2nd one is a Test database server with oracle 10g Database on RHEL 3 - this server used for testing the forms, reports and plsql stuff.).

Now, i want to develop few web applications, i.e. Forms, Reports and PL SQL web pages using 10g developer suite and MOD_PLSQL. This applications will be used by few people only let us say 5 users.

I don't want to invest more money on a seperate Application Server (Hardware). As you said my present Test Database is using 1521 port. Is it possible to install AS middle tier and infrastructure in my test server ? and Is it possible to Mount both products simultaneously on this server ?.

Kindly advice me.

Regards
Vijayan.

Why don't you try it? The Enterprise Deployment Guide describes many options.

Hello,

If you think that it'll be this easy to install Oracle 10g Application Server on Ubuntu Linux you're crazy! Oracle 10g Application Server is a complex product and there's a good reason that's it is only certified on.

Thanks

Hello,

Agree with Ryans reply, If it were windows (32-bit) - no issues. Please follow oracle AS 10g certification page available on oracle.
