Hi,

How the people in production counts the exact position of the data in fixed format of Sql*loader?
Isn't it critical especially in a critical and having many column to be inserted.

Thanks in advance

Base10 is what most folks use

Only when you want it to actually load data correctly.

Hi,

In production which method the DBA use to counts the exact character position (other than manually counting) of "fixed format data" in Sql loader.

Especially in the case of many column's and having lot of spaces between the column's data?

Thanks in advance

I give up.
How do YOU count some thing, other than by COUNTING them?
COUNTING them is faster than trail & error guessing.
You could always use a fixed sized font (10 pitch) & measure the distance between adjacent columns

Well there is an alternative to counting:
If the person who created the file in the first place made a note of the length of each column, then they could just tell whoever is trying to load it.

There's no clever trick if that's what you're looking for.
