Can anybody give me few details about the differences in between the version of oracle 9i, 10g and 11i? why do we need these different versions?

Go to http://tahiti.oracle.com - it is Oracle documentation site. Search for the "New Features" books which explain what is new in this version, compared to that version.

Why do we need these versions? I don't know ... why do we buy a new car once in a while? Or a new TV set? Or a new mobile phone? What do you think?

Each version comes with a "New features" book, have a look to them.

Well, I usually do when the old one breaks and doesn't work anymore. So..... why do we need those versions again? Razz

( Yep. I'm pretty stressed out at the moment, because we will move to new versions of OS, Oracle, and a couple of applications on our Unix servers over Christmas break. Can you tell? )

Oracle periodically provides updated versions of eAM. The original version(s) still work, but the enhancements allow for more versatility.

A good example is that in Self Service Maintenance (SSM) a Work Order may be created in SSM that mimics a Work Order created in Core Applications.

In other words; the bells and whistles are available.

Many expert users are then able to work in SSM rather than in Core Apps. SSM is a much simpler method of creating planned work.
