Oracle7 RDB JDBC Connection String in SQLDeveloper [message #324383]

Hi Guys,

I tried to connect to Oracle7 RDB residing @ HP VMS but when I put this in my SQLDeveloper under Connection Type: (Advance)
jdbc:oracle:thin:@user/@myhost:1701:rdb1
it didn't work

Please help me.

Oracle SQL Developer is certified with Oracle 9.2.0.1 database and later versions (check the whole Database Certification for SQL Developer chapter of the SQL Developer Installation Guide).

Oracle 7, which you'd like to connect to, is far too old to be supported.

RdB is not the same as the regular Oracle RDBMS.
Version 7 of RdB might very well be a supported version (I don't want to check it Wink

)

RdB is (or was, last time I coded for it) a VMS-specific relational database.

Oh? We have Digital Alpha server under OpenVMS and it ran Oracle 7 RDBMS for years; now it is obsolete, shut down forever (my heart is crying for it; Alpha, I mean, not Oracle 7). But we have never had Oracle 7 RdB (actually, I've never heard of it).

So, it appears that I was mistaken. I apologize, it wasn't bad intention, I just though that your product was something else (thanks to my ignorance). Also, thank you, Frank, for pointing that out.

It wasn't called Oracle in the old days; Larry acquired it only a year or so (?) ago.

Ah, yes : Oracle RDB

Interesting. But when it's a completely other database I doubt one can connect to it with SQL Developer at all.

In 1994 DEC sold the Rdb division to Oracle Corporation where it was rebranded Oracle Rdb.

I doubt one can connect to it with SQL Developer at all

Documentation says that it supports Oracle 9i and later, as well as certain versions of MS Access, MS SQL Server, MySQL and Sybase. No Oracle RDB.

thanks alot guys, although this one is an old DBMS, this is enough to keep our company running. unfortunately I'm new to this kind of RDBMS so I'm at a loss. I've look unto the manual but it only says this sample: jdbc:oracle:thin:@user/@myhost:1701:rdb1.

I hope someone knows to sort out the example for me.
