There are advantages and disadvantages. First, you might want to go 3-4 messages back to read the initial context, and you can't navigate along ancestor messages in linear view. Of course, I'm assuming that it's a bad manner for a child message to quote parent in all the entirety -- it explodes the content. Second, you have window space at left side anyway. Finally, you can easily skip long subthreads like this

where you don't have big expectations about A and B.

What is needed, is more intelligent forum tree with "intelligently" exploding and contracting nodes. For example, the "dead" part of the tree might be contracted -- this would make big tree visually more appealing... Received on Wed Dec 13 2006 - 14:30:10 CST
