I can see how you would find it so, if you assume that the person you are conversing with is an otherwise intelligent person who only needs the right phrasing to finally understand what it is he has been missing.
However, I do not believe this assumption fits the facts. I can think of any number of other hypotheses that do, but the above one? Definitely not.
