I can only answer this question for DEC Rdb/VMS, which is not widely known. The answer is yes, at last for a view. The system tables keep track of the relationship between result columns and source columns for the contents of a view.
I would expect the same to be true for Oracle's data dictionary, and for the standard metadata now defined for SQL. But I haven't checked it out. Received on Sat Mar 04 2006 - 14:25:32 CET
