I only get really irritated when the "r" gets cut off.

That, in fact, is normally a database issue, involving the scenario where Dumb Designers decided that names should be limited to 10 characters in length. This was quite common with credit cards back in the early '90s; I used to always have to ask banks to fix my credit card to actually have my name on it rather than "CHRISTOPHE BROWNE."

Evidently, when they were replacing apps for Y2K, they noticed that this limitation was overly limiting...
