Two excellent points applicable not only to this forum but to the last x thousand years of human interaction.

Offered for discussion are two issues:

  1. The terminological definition of a concept beyond just the data, a concept which in the environment of database systems also is to contain the theory of process, and programs, and their interaction with the data, and all consequent change management theory.

The term used for DATA + PROGRAMS is (computerised) intelligence. The (computerised) is used to distinguish the term from the (human) intelligence which is a hypothetical entity in quite another academic discipline, perhaps psychology.

The adjectival term "organisational" seeing that, as I have pointed out on a number of occassions, both the data and the programs represent an investment by an organisation. Current theory passes over this aspect.

Thus we define the term "organisational intelligence", and proceed to draft a theory of OI ...

2) A Theory of DATA + PROGRAMS
(A theory of Organisational Intelligence)
