That is a reasonable approach but a lot of people don't have DUNS numbers unfortunately. In Australia there actually isn't any unique identifier for people (such as the American SSN), the only identifiers available are:

  1. Medicare Number - You aren't allowed to collect this unless you are using for medical billing purposes, and many people don't have one.
  2. Tax File Number - There are only specific circumstances where you are allowed to collect this, most people under 18 don't have one.
  3. Drivers License Number - A lot of people don't have one.
