You are in good company. Aristotle believed all virtuous action was informed by both theory and practice, and that to some extent they informed each other. Practice brought wisdom that theory might never obtain, and what he called "meditation" on theory could inform practice in ways that would never come up if a routine was always being followed. But since we don't study those "old guys" anymore....
