I agree there are other advantages to Open Source, but database people do consider that LINUX will run on their 390 as well as on their smaller servers and desktops. This is important for DB2 people, since you can also get LINUX based tools.
Having a database from a company that supports every major operating system and platform is nice, but each code base is slightly different in each OS, each set of available tools is slightly different, etc. It starts to add up fast when you realize that ReportWriter-X only runs on Windows and not the mainframe, that DataDictionary-Y is only on OS/390, etc. Received on Sat Jan 22 2005 - 08:35:56 CST
