  1. No it does not in a relational model, which is why positional were deprecated in SQL-92
  2. Hey, if you throwing out the basic SQL model, why not allow computed references, like pointer math in C, et al?
  3. The phrase "Standard Oracle" is an oxymoron. That product is a screwed up mess from a Standards virewpoint, a RDBMS viewpoint and an Relational viewpoint. Have you seen Rich Finkelstein's slide show about all of the marketing lies, frauds, etc. done by this company?
  4. Agreed. Which is one of the many reasons that (1) is useless in a language that claims to be orthogonal.
