Well, I suppose there's some sense in which any application you might use to edit any file could benefit from something like that. Photoshop is no more an example than any other application, but I thought it had been mentioned for some specific reason.
But as far as that goes, it doesn't seem like such a good idea to build that functionality into the applications themselves. Better to make it part of a larger system independent of whatever applications might be used to edit a file.
