I'll keep walking past that point and say that textbases, GIS, picture search engines, and whatever else we have out there are better for some jobs than SQL.

Many years ago, I did a consulting job at Sourthern California Edison for their labor relations library. They had just gotten DB2 and wanted to use it in some vague way to computerize the library. Since it was all documents, I showed them how to get it on a large PC with an optical disk and ZyIndex running five user terminals that had an interface lawyers could understand (looks like WestLaw!).
