It is essentially the same thing. In TM, any thing can be related 0 to many things, in 0 to many ways using the general format aRb where a, R and b are all things and the entirety aRb is also a thing. Whether -a- is a symbol, string, box, thickenss, weight, cost, etc doesn't make a difference in this case.
