Yes, and not only is there a cult following, but all students of information technology must drink the koolaid before they graduate. Then they come to us where we have to deprogram them. Instead of using airports to hand out collateral material, they use our colleges and universities to pass out textbooks that often read in a way that could be summarized as "here are some flawed approaches to database theory and then here is relational theory, the truth, the whole truth." This seems to be a very effective technique for proselytizing.
