Unfortunately it is not so simple... MS still has some tricks to play, either by leveraging its illegal monopoly or by patenting and litigating.

OTOH Java and other portable languages also gives one access to MS Windows customers without limiting portability or exposing oneself to MS tricks like decommoditisation.
