I have a college textbook and it discuss 3-6 NF and BCNF, but totally skips 1NF and 2NF. can someone help me in understanding this? I dont need it for school, I just want to know what it is.

BCNF
for every functional dependency X->A in F+ 1. X->A is trival or
2. X is a superkey X+_f=R

3NF
1. Its in BCNF or
2. X->A, such that A is part of some candidate key.

I would assume 2NF is

  1. Its in 3NF or... ????

1NF
1. Its in 2NF or.... ???? Received on Thu Dec 04 2003 - 14:07:49 CET
