Agreed, but some systems of views may be ambiguous for some updates (inserts), and not for others (deletes).
By the principle of interchangeability views are as updateable as base relation variables, but some views (and relvars) are updateable in zero or few circumstances.
Many views not updateable by inserts are updateable by deletes.
We must consider the acceptablity of each updating attempt individually.
