From physisist's perspective SI is inferior to CGS (Centimeter-Gram-Second system) pretty much like old imperial units system is inferior to metric systems (from educated person perspective).

The morale of the story is that is very problematic to find "base" units. Indeed, length is expressed as time via "c" constant. Mass is expressed through length and time via gravitational constant. ElectroMagnetic units are expressed through "fundamental" CGS units.
