It's a distributed computing concept too, you might search with
'distributed' and see if you get more results.
I do stuff like that in FoxBase, could be done in FoxPro, but you have to leave the comfort of the wizards and hard code some data management routines.
I have looked at MySQL and don't see much details on importing/exporting data, it may be only designed as a centalized only solution.
