Give you another one that Chris Date got of commodity versus group versus discrete elements in a set. You start with litters of ratlets which are generically identical and you label the litter. As they grow up, they differentiate into individuals that get tagged (well, color coded with Magic Markers on the tails like a eletrical resistor).
