Unfortunately, yes, it is a fair assumption. I get "do my homeowrk for me" emails all the time, and you can see them on any of the newsgroups. In my day, we had to copy files from other students and present their work as our own.

My favorite one was a kid who asked for a complete schema for a railroad scheduling database in a SQL Server Newsgroup a few years ago. That was so blatant that everyone jumped on him and made him do his own work.

I see my own SQL puzzles from my old DBMS and DBP&D magazine columns sent back to me. I wish they would do a little research and look up the answers on the CMP website archives, or better yet, buy a copy of my book so I could get a little royalty money out of it.

I have emailed the IT departments at several schools when I catch someone; I know at least one of them took action. Received on Sun Sep 22 2002 - 20:58:40 CEST
